Before You Arrive
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight before your surgery if you are having anesthesia other than local. Nursing staff will contact you with an arrival time or specific instructions as needed.
- When you arrive, please check in with the receptionist. You will be asked for some basic billing information and your insurance card. Please have this information available.
- A nurse will greet you, check your temperature, heart rate, review your record, and answer any questions you may have.
- If you will be having anesthesia for your procedure, a member of the anesthesia department will speak with you regarding your experience and answer any questions you may have on the day of your surgery.
- Wear glasses instead of contacts.
- Do NOT bring any valuables with you such as jewelery, credit cards or money. Remove all body piercings.
- If you are having a local, regional, epidural or spinal anesthesia, you may want to bring a small battery-operated music player with headphones along with something to listen to.
- Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The guardian must remain in the facility at all times while the patient is in the building.
- Your family or "responsible" adult may wait at Salem Surgery Center while you have surgery.
